Jaw Reduction by BOTOX

As non-surgical cosmetic interventions rise to fame with botox and fillers, their indications and cosmetic value has also dramatically increased. Before, the only solution for face lift is an extensive surgery, but nowadays, there are several other options to bring back the youthfulness of the face. This also goes well with jaw reduction.
In human anatomy, the jaw area is made up of the prominent bone called mandibles, a block of muscle called the masseter, and some fat deposits. Though prominence of the jaw line can mostly be attributed to wide mandibles, there are cases when muscle hypertrophy is the issue. In the not so recent past, the only solution for muscle hypertrophy on the jaw area is by muscle resection which is a somewhat invasive surgical procedure; however, with the rise of non-surgical innovations such as botox for jaw reduction, the muscle resection option has lost its glitz and glamour.
How Effective is Jaw Reduction by Botox?
Most often, square jaw is due to the hypertrophy of the jaw muscle. Botox, being proven effective to weaken muscles, making it smaller, has long been used for cosmetic purposes such as this.
When botox is used along the masseter, the effect is to soften the otherwise strong, square jaw line. Botox works by blocking the action of the muscle, thereby making it smaller over time. Unlike surgery however, the result of jaw reduction by botox is not as immediate as it will take time for the paralyzed muscle to shrink in size, making it smaller. Typically, patients who had done this treatment are informed that it may take 4 weeks before they can appreciate the maximum result.
Since the result of the treatment is not permanent, a trip to Prof. Somyos Kunachak’s clinic may be necessary at least once a year, however, if one wants to maintain the seamless steady result, our surgeon recommend a repeat injection every 6 months.
What are the Risks Associated with Jaw Reduction by Botox?
Botox is a drug that paralyzes the muscles or decreases its ability to move or contract, therefore, it is only a must that patients find someone who knows what they are doing with this drug. There are only specific muscles that can be injected with botox which will give clients their desired result, be it jaw reduction, or wrinkle correction, injection to the wrong muscle can render the treatment ineffective or worse, it can paralyze other muscles that are more essential for functioning.
With the experience of Prof. Somyos Kunachak in the field of cosmetic and plastic surgery, our patients can rest assured that he is very familiar with the muscles that needs to be injected so errors are greatly minimized.
What Happens after the Injection of Botox?
Since Jaw Reduction by Botox is a non-surgical procedure, post-treatment care is very simple. No special diet will be required since there will be no incision inside the mouth or elsewhere.
There is a possibility of numbness or weakness on the area, evidenced by slow chewing during eating after the jaw reduction by botox but this is all normal because of the effect of botox on the muscle and it should gradually wear off in 2-3 weeks while your face should also start to thin down.
On average, it takes about 4 weeks before patients can start to appreciate the result of their jaw reduction by botox injection treatment, and result usually last for 6-12 months.
Jaw Reduction by Botox injection has no down time, but patients should always consider that botox injection will only work if the concern is the masseter muscle, hence a personal consultation with Prof. Somyos Kunachak is still a must to be sure patients are getting the right treatment and the result they want to achieve.
Upon several repeated sessions of Jaw Reduction by Botox injection, some patients may develop antibody to Botox which results to drug resistance. This can be solved by dosage adjustment or by changing the form of drug. As a last resort for those who are looking into getting a more permanent result, surgical masseter muscle removal which may or may not include jaw angle reduction may be recommended.
WHAT CAN WE OFFER?
Aside from world class surgeons and medical team with warm and friendly staffs, our clinic also boasts using only the leading brands with FDA approval especially for BOTOX treatments. A lot of brands are currently out in the market but not all of these came from trusted manufacturers so patients should beware about promotions with very attractive prices as the price of FDA approved BOTOX is the same in every country so the price will really not vary that much.
In addition to quality cosmetic services, we also offer a whole package of accommodation from our nearby hotel, Aphrodite Inn, which sits adjacent to our facility with a connecting door on the 2nd floor for patient privacy. The 2nd floor of Aprodite Inn was also converted to suit the needs of our patients, pre and post-operatively. Each room is equipped with mechanical beds, with hotel quality mattresses, and oxygen outlet for patients who just had surgery. Medical equipments and emergency apparatuses are also within reach from the rooms so there will be no need to worry about recovery.
Prof. Somyos Kunachak and the rest of our team also pays visit to all patients staying in the nearby hotel every day. Patients who are staying with a companion also enjoy the privilege of sharing the room with them as part of their surgical package.
